About Jorge O. Rodriguez, DO

About Dr Rodriguez:

Dr Rodriguez grew up in Jacksonville, FL and attended Bolles High School where he lettered in baseball and soccer. He earned his undergraduate degree from Duke University in Durham, NC. He earned a second undergraduate degree at Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL. He then entered medical school at Nova Southeastern University, College of Osteopathic Medicine in Davie, FL. He was awarded the Health Professions Scholarship with the U.S. Army and was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant during medical school.

After graduating, he served on active duty as a Captain in the US Army Medical Corps. He completed his transitional internship at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, TX.  After completing his internship, Dr. Rodriguez attended flight surgeon training in Ft Rucker, AL.  While serving as a flight surgeon, he was stationed in South Korea for a year.  After serving in South Korea, he trained for a year in Orthopedic Surgery at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI. Dr Rodriguez then spent three years at Ft Bragg, NC as a flight surgeon taking care of aviators and their family members. He was deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina on a NATO peace keeping mission where he distinguished himself and received a NATO service medal.

After completing his Army obligation, with the rank of Major, he entered a three year family medicine residency through Duke/SR-AHEC in Fayetteville, NC where he served as chief resident during his last year. His love of being active and sports led him to pursue and complete a one year primary care sports medicine fellowship at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC where he served as team physician for the football, basketball, baseball and soccer teams.

After completing his fellowship, Dr Rodriguez entered private practice in Cary, NC where he served as assistant team physician to the Carolina Ballet, Carolina Hurricanes and as head team physician for USA Baseball. For family reasons, Dr. Rodriguez moved to Little Rock, AR and became a faculty member in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.  While in Arkansas, he served as team physician for the University of Arkansas (UALR) Trojans.

After UAMS, Dr. Rodriguez accepted a faculty position as an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedics with Emory Healthcare. His role consisted of adult trauma, fracture care, and general orthopaedics. He also served as an assistant team physician with the Emory Eagles. After five years with Emory, Dr. Rodriguez joined POA/NLSM to pursue his passion for sports medicine.

Over the years, Dr. Rodriguez has published several book chapters as well as peer-reviewed journal articles. He has also been a lecturer at the local, state, and national levels.

When he is not in clinic, on the field, publishing, or lecturing, Dr. Rodriguez enjoys mountain biking with his wife and their triplets.
