
About Gilbert Chan, MD
Gilbert Chan, M.D., is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Chan earned his medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines. After obtaining his medical degree, he went on to complete a general orthopedic surgery residency at Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City, Philippines. During his training, he was exposed to various pediatric orthopedic conditions, mainly congenital foot and ankle deformities, as well as various neglected injuries in young children. This was when Dr. Chan developed a passion to treat pediatric orthopedics, realizing that what he would do would make a difference in the childs’ future. At that point, he decided to pursue further training in the United States, where he completed clinical research fellowships in Alfred I DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware and The Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA. He also went on to complete clinical fellowships in pediatric orthopedic surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare in St. Paul, Minn.
After completing his training he went on to Louisville, Kentucky where he practiced pediatric orthopedic surgery and was a faculty member of the department of orthopedics in the university of Louisville, where he was deeply involved in resident education and training. He also has an interest in orthopedic research. He also believes in improving childrens conditions globally, as such, he has involved himself in mission trips overseas to treat various pediatric orthopedic conditions.
Dr. Chan offers a full range of pediatric orthopedic care for children but has special interests in neuromuscular diseases, pediatric foot conditions and spinal deformities.
